  • Après 70 ans d'existence de la série et 70 albums traduits en anglais, il était temps d'offrir aux lecteurs anglophones une intégrale en format cartonné. Pour ce premier volume, nous avons choisi de commencer avec des titres qui préfigurent l'âge d'or. Doc Doxey's Elixir (comprenant aussi le récit Manhunt) et Phil Wire (incluant Lucky Luke and Pill), furent publiés en 1955 et 1956, et l'on y trouve déjà un Luke qui ressemble plus à l'image que nous avons maintenant de lui qu'à ses débuts. Le troisième album, Rails on the Prairie, marqua la toute première collaboration avec Goscinny - inaugurant par la même trente années d'une collaboration légendaire. Ces histoires sont précédées d'un cahier de 46 pages de suppléments divers - articles, interviews, biographies, illustrations - qui raviront les passionnés.

  • Après des débuts très inspirés du dessin animé et du cinéma burlesque, Morris se tourne vers la tradition du Western pour nourrir l'univers de son héros. Under a Western Sky, Lucky Luke versus Pat Poker et Outlaws fleurent bon Hollywood et John Ford, et si Luke n'a pas encore tout à fait sa silhouette actuelle, il ressemble déjà plus au flegmatique cowboy que nous connaissons. C'est aussi dans Outlaws que les Daltons apparaissent pour la première fois, dans une incarnation plus fidèle à leur modèle historique, mais qui préfigure bien le quatuor bête et méchant qui suivra. Avec un cahier de suppléments de 48 pages sur Morris en Amérique, un volume à ne pas manquer.
